Van Doorn Tower Crane Consulting just completed work on a power project in Honduras that will give power to roughly 2 million homes in the country. Known as the “hydropower plant La Vegona,” the structure is designed to promote clean energy and help the country meet its growing power needs. La Vegona is expected to produce about 181 gigawatt hours of electricity a year. The hydropower plant will also help to improve the competitiveness and sustainability of Honduran exporters by supplying lower-cost energy from a clean source. It’s the largest hydropower project in Honduras.

The project was run by Compañía Hondureña de Energía Renovable S.A. (COHERSA) and funded by OeEB and IFC, a member of the World Bank Group.

As a company, Van Doorn Tower Crane Consulting made five trips to Honduras for this project.  Four of the trips were to erect, climb and dismantle, and the other was for consulting and project planning for the tower crane process and heavy lifting involving turbines. Each trip lasted between six to eight weeks.

It has been a privilege to work alongside Cohersa with this project.  It has presented many unique problems, which we had to overcome due to its location deep inside the La Vegona rainforest, located roughly two hours inland from San Pedro Sula.  We are proud to be able to assist in the production of clean and sustainable energy, which will be supplied to roughly two million homes.  It has been an honor to work in the Latin American community and look forward to future projects in the region.

This is the latest of several big projects we have taken on as a team. We were involved in the construction of The Shard, a skyscraper in London, which opened in February of 2013 and finished at a height of 310 metres or 97 stories . We have also assisted with the building of The Cheesegrater (122 Leadenhall Street) in London, which is scheduled for completion in 2014.

Van Doorn Tower Crane Consultants specialize in tower crane erection, dismantling, and servicing. We are able to provide our clients with a full range of services: from looking after the erection and dismantling process, and servicing of your tower cranes to writing Method Statements, Lifting plans, Plant Movement, and Logistics planning and execution during the construction process.
